Review | Mac Venomous Villains Briar Rose Beauty Powder...

3/07/2012 09:00:00 am

In a far away land, long ago, lived a king and his fair queen. Many years had they longed for a child and finally their wish was granted. A daughter was born, and they called her Aurora. Yes, they named her after the dawn for she filled their lives with sunshine. Then a great holiday was proclaimed throughout the kingdom, so that all of high or low estate might pay homage to the infant princess. And our story begins on that most joyful day.
I actually purchased 4 things from the Villains collection when it came out, and this is by far my fave!  It is a very finely milled powder blush, which picks up better on a brush than many Mac blushers I have tried.  As you can see from the pics below, it is a very cool toned pink, with a touch of blue to it - I would kind of liken it to one of my fave all time blushers - Benefit Thrrob, with the Mac leaning slightly darker and cooler.  Upon seeing it my sister did think it leant slightly purple, which I think it might do on darker skintones.  It is lovely applied to the highest point of the apples of the cheeks to brighten up the face and make you look alive and healthy!  I have also patted this on the lips before, and find it makes a lovely lip colour.  I know it is marketed as a Beauty Powder, but I reckon it would look rather odd all over the face, even if it was applied very sheerly!
For some reason this often gets neglected in my collection - have really been making an effort to use it, and I love it.  It really brightens the face, and makes me look spring-appropriate for want of a better word!
One regret I have re the Venomous Villains Collection is that I never picked up Heartless lippy - I think it was in the Cruella collection.  I have searched and searched for it, but eBay is asking me for circa £30 and tbh they're not getting it from me!  Pleeeeeeeeeeease let me know if you have one knocking about that you're not using, or if you know of a really good dupe.  But let's be honest, I want the one with Cruella on it!

I know you

I walked with you

Once upon a dream

I know you

The gleam in your eyes

Is so familiar a gleam

And I know it's true
That visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
The way you did
Once upon a dream.

Nail of the week!...

3/06/2012 09:00:00 am
Ah so spring had sprung slightly on Thursday, and I felt somewhat springy (or bouncy like tigger? Who knows...) and painted my nails in my fave light colour.  I have a fave dark colour - No7 Temptress, a fave glitter - Models Own Pink Fizz, and a fave light colour - Nails Inc Ltd Edition Candy sob, sob its hard to get hold of now='[
Nails Inc Candy with Saffron gold glitter on ring finger.
Candy is a creme kind of formula that it a gorgeous creamy pastel pink with hints of lavender.  The Saffron I picked up super cheaply at a market, and tbh what this means is that there's a lot of clear nail polish and sparse amounts of glitter! But I find it works well on just one nail, as long as I give it a couple of coats, place the glitter strategically, and give it plenty of time to dry!  What I do really like about it is that the glitter is lots of different shapes and sizes, and the gold works well over lots of different colour nail polishes!
Check out the pics btw, actually was able to take them in bright sunlight for a really true representation of the colour!  Love the sun!

The wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is that Tiggers are wonderful things
Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs
They're bouncy trouncy flouncy pouncy
Fun fun fun fun fun
But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is I'm the only one!

Not quite Cinderella's Slippers...and a Boots haul...

3/04/2012 09:00:00 am
So I only like shoes with points.  I seriously take issue with round toe shoes!  I don't know why, but i love me a point!  However, lately it is getting harder and harder to find a good pointed shoe.  I blame ballet flats!  However, I came across these in Primark the other day for £6 and now seriously regret not buying the cream colour too.  I may just go back and get them!
I think one would classify them as 'almond toe' - not quite my perfect point, but getting there.
I lost my hair doughnut soooo I picked up the following also from Primark, which were £1.50 and £1, I don't remember which is which, but they are much cheaper than my first one from boots:
Of course I popped into boots, and I picked up the following (minus the elephants, they are alllllllllll mine):
These lippies are the L'oreal Caress Sheer Lippies in L-R Lovely Rose,  Tempting Lilac and Impulsive Fuschia.  The little colourful box is the new No7 ltd edition Vital Bright Blush in Blooming pink.  First impressions of the lippies are that they are lovely and moisturising, but not as pigmented as normal lippies.  They go on fairly glossy, with a fair amount of sheer colour, that can be layered up.  The blush is beautiful in terms of both colour and formulation - it truly is cream-to-powder.  I will defos be getting the other blush colour, as well as more of the L'oreal lippies - the slight sheerness makes it easier to wear brighter colours.  More in-depth reviews to come!

Your Majesty, I see no point in beating about the bush. I regret to inform you, Sire, that the young lady has disappeared, leaving behind only this glass slipper.

Thing of the week 1...

3/02/2012 09:00:00 am
Hola!
To add some consistency to my blog, I have decided to have a 'thing of the week!'  That's right, a thing - not a product of the week, not a nail of the week, not a face of the week.  Mostly because it can be anything I want! And I'm gonna cheat a bit and say it may even be multiple things! Shock Horror! So, without further ado, the first thing of the week issssssssssssssssssssssssss: Alpha H Liquid Gold! Round of applause, round of applause.

This really is a miracle product, really clearing up and brightening my skin in next to no time.  Basically, after night-time cleansing, one applies this to a cotton wool pad (same kind of texture as toner) and wipes it over the face on alternate nights.  You can follow with moisturiser but I have been skipping it in favour of letting the product work alone and more intensely.  I wake up in the morning and literally see a brighter me in the mirror.
As a side note, do a small patch test if you decide to use this product - my skin is used to glycolics, so I don't really even feel the tingle that you should feel, but you need to see if you are sensitive to this product, as it can do a lot of damage (key is in the name - glycolic ACID).  Second warning is don't even bother using this if you can't be bothered with using a sunscreen daily.  And I don't mean on sunny days, I mean cloudy days, rainy days, days that you're not even going out but are sitting near your window days!  Every day is a sunscreen day - I would say AT LEAST factor 20 and no, your foundation doesn't count!
Anyways, the basic point of this post it I love this product=].
Glycolics always make me smileeeeeeeeeeeeee.
