Fabulous February Favourites!...

2/29/2012 06:14:00 pm
Ah hard to believe February's already over - the older I get the faster life seems to go by!
So February Favourites.  A nice bit of alliteration there.  We could do more to it.  Finally February's Favourites.  February's Fantastic Favourites.  Fabulous February Favourites.  I think I like that the best.  Yes, if you'll excuse me for one sec I shall change the title of this post!  Oh what a piece of stream of consciousness writing can do for a blog post.  As usual, this is a midnight madness kind of post (actually its 2:36am) - I get inspired mostly at night.  Odd.  Onto the faves:
This month I have been experimenting with foundation big time.  I thinkkkkk seeing as I've only had samples of most of them, that I shall pick one from my own collection that I've been using alone, and with other foundations - my 'foundation alchemy' if you will.  So top of the foundation pile this month is Nars Sheer Glow - my shade is Stromboli.  I loooooooooove this foundation.  Why?  You may ask!  Well one huuuuuuuuuuuge reason is that it is super yellow-based and I am basically a Simpson.  I can add this to other foundations, or use it as a base layer for other foundations to make my face the right colour.  Also it is neither sheer - I would say its a good medium but buildable coverage - nor glowy really, its more natural finish, with a hint of matte that just makes you look healthy.  So maybe that's where the glow comes from?  Don't really know where to go with that.
And how has one been applying the ol' Sheer Glow?  With a pink, pink, pink Beauty Blender from Cosmopolitan Beauty.  I've just reviewed this here and after an initial disappointment regarding it, I now love it.  Warning though, although available in superdrug, it was hard to find.  I have used this little gem with cream foundation, liquid foundation, cream concealer and liquid concealer and it is just amazing.  I maaaaaaaaaaaaaay even buy another. Shock Horror.
Next up is theBalm Bahama Mama Bronzer.  Now I got this from TK Maxx eons ago, and am hitting pan on it! Gasp!  I never hit pan, apart from on pressed powders, and now I'm worried about where I'm going to find one so cheaply again!  I love this colour - in terms of colour it is deeper than my Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel, and although I've never tried Benefit's Hoola, I want to say its kind of that colour?  Its also darker than my Nars Laguna Bronzer, the plus side of this being I use Laguna on no-effort make-up days, and Bahama Mama on sculpting-my-face-days.
In terms of blush - I have rediscovered my Mac Venomous Villains Briar Rose Beauty Powder, and have been applying it right at the top of my (non-existent) cheekbones.  It is beautiful, and although quite sheer, is buildable.  I'll have to get round to doing a review.
OOOOOOOOOO another rediscovery - Body Shop Loose Powder in 04 has taken over from my prized Mac Pressed Powder NC35.  I have literally had this for years.  Blush.  Loose powder really is so much more finely milled, giving a much better finish, however it's a bit messy and I can't carry it around.
Skincare has been my priority this month - my skin has been acting up, but has really improved with the introduction of a few products.  However, I think these will probably need to go in next month's faves, just so I can really test them out.
One thing I super love is my Clari.  It just makes my skin soft and supple and cleeeeeeeeeeeeeeean.
This defos has to go in my faves because its just nearly run out, and when I popped into Boots last Fri to pick a new one up, their Boots Botanics  shelves were literally empty!  It is the Boots Organic Cleansing Balm, and no joke, it has lasted me a full year.  Ridiculous!  It is the best for any skin type, and I often use this as the first of my cleanses before my Clari.  Review to come!
In terms of hair, my go-to tool is of course my Enrapture tong.
I think that's it in terms of Beauty and skincare.
I do have a few TV faves this month actually: one fave however is The Big Bang Theory - it doesn't matter how many times I see these episodes, each one is still so sooooo funny!
The same goes for my beloved Modern Family, I sky+ all the episodes, and when I fancy a giggle, play one!
Did anyone catch Pan Am? If so, did you love it as much as me?  The retro glamour was just amaze balls, and as much as I didn't like the character Ashley Greene played, I thought she looked stunning.
As I've put so much TV in there, I need to balance it with at least one book!  I am (still) currently reading Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde.  Yes, still.  I literally have so much reading to do for my postgrad degree that I am literally reading it a chapter at a time in the bath!  I have so many books - real books, and kindle books, just waiting for my attention!  I'll see if I can get through a few more by this time next month!
In terms of food, my addiction has been clementines, sweet breakfasts and Earl Grey Tea=]..I just cannot drink 'normal' tea anymore, the Earl is so much sunnier!
So that's my Feb for you!  What were your faves?

Review! Good Things Deep Pore Anti Blemish Cleanser...

2/29/2012 09:00:00 am
Now, before we start, this smells yummy!  It says its got fig and wild strawberry.  Well I don't know if I've ever met a wild strawberry, but boy would I like to now!  This little bottle has a load of spot fighting and soothing ingredients in it, and you can really feel those getting to work when you apply it.  But I don't actually use it as a cleanser.  I couldn't.  My brain will not let me.  I have to wash my face, not just wipe off my make up.  I don't use make up wipes, I think they just push your make up around your face, and I always double cleanse.  So I use this little tube as a kind of pre-toner phase, after double cleansing, on a cotton pad to give my skin a little bit more of a chance in the fight for clarity.  And it really is at the same time both refreshing and yummy smelling!

Slightly vacant Tesco face of the day...

2/28/2012 09:00:00 am
Quick and easy everyday kind of face (although my face stays more or less the same everyday).

 Face:
Concealer -
Foundation - Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation 6.5 (sample - not quite yellow enough for a Simpson like me)
Contour - the Balm Bahama Mama, with Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel over the top
Highlighter - Elf Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminous
Blusher -
Eyes - Mac Paint Pot Constructivist as Base, Urban Decay Darkhorse all over, with Smog on the inner half.    Matte brown of my Mac Eye Palette as eyeliner.  Maybelline Volum' Express turbo mascara
Lips: A new little beauty here - Maybelline Extreme Moisture lippy in Windsor Rose.  I actually own one of the nudes from this collection, have been using it for aaaaaaaaaages and it is literally my perfect nude.  Saw this little one on Adrienne's Blog, which I adore.  Check out her post on it, her camera obviously picked up the colour much better than mine.  It actually is a more muted, duskier pink, rather than the bright pink it appears in my pic!
Hope you liked this!

Nars Blush / Bronze trio!!!!...

2/27/2012 09:00:00 am
Oooooo the excitement over this product!  I actually wanted it when it was originally out, but it sold out!  About 3 weeks ago, you could subscribe to the Nars wait-list, as they were gonna re-promote it.  So I subscribed!  Anyways, you don't quite know me yet, but I am an eBay-aholic!  So I kept checking checking and checking again on eBay for it, but as with limited edition products, they were going for at least £60.  But then one day, I saw it!  And asked if I could buy it now, and the lovely lovely girl said I could have it for £25 including postage!  OMG i was so excited!  So it arrived, and I loved it, and the day after it arrived, I got an email saying it was available on the Nars website for £39, so I got me quite the bargain.
Here goes:
Beautiful, but the packaging gets soooooooooooo grubby.
I looooooooooooove that it zips up, so clever!
 Huge mirror
Orgasm blush, Albatross Highlighter, Laguna Bronzer
As you can see from the swatches, Orgasm leans a corally-pink shot through with gold, and really makes you look healthy.  Albatross looks white in the pan, but leans white-gold, and really makes you glow.  Laguna is similar to my the Balm Bahama Mama bronzer, doesn't lean orangey at all, and is actually quite a natural bronzer on my NC37 skintone.
I'm actually having quite the Nars love-affair at the moment, so you may see a few posts coming up: I have an eyeshadow palette plus both Sheer Glow and Sheer Matte foundations.  Perhaps a Nars face of the day is in order!
Anyways, this product is really all you need for your face bar foundation - I have used orgasm and laguna as eyeshadows, and albatross as brow highlight.  Go to the Nars website and pick it up, even at £39 it is still such good value!  I can't recommend it enough!

Dorothy Perkins New Bag...

2/26/2012 09:00:00 am
Oooooo i bought this when DP had their 25% off student discount, and paid around £18 for it, and I bloody love it!  I was adamant I wasn't going to get a satchel / messenger style bag EVER.  But I have decided in my mind that this is too slouchy to be considered as either of those.  Plus, I shorten the long strap as much as possible and generally walk around with it like 'posh' ladies do, on the crook of my arm!
It is a beautiful, soft kind of dove grey, with gold hardware and is ridiculously roomy.  It has secret compartments!  The flap-over bit of the bag doubles up as space to put stuff, just opens with a zip to the bottom of it, and so does the part under - I think you'll see what I mean from the pics.  Then on the actual interior there are 2 main compartments, the most forward one containing the usual phone pocket.  But the back compartment is amaze balls.  It is divided into 3 by the middle section being almost a kind of live-in, attached to the bag make-up bag! So useful! Then the usual zip pocket at the back of the interior, and one on the outside of the reverse of the bag. Serious value for money!
You can see the two secret flap compartments here!  Although the zip kinda gives them away...
Secret make up bag, which you can see behind my deodorant!

Cosmopolitan Beauty Blender...

2/25/2012 09:00:00 am
I've been umming and ah-ing over this post for a while now: I wasn't sure what to say about the cosmo beauty blender, but I finally do!  So have a quick gander at these pics and I'll tell you all about it!
This little teeny weird looking sponge is actually a bit of a revolution to me!  I've had it for a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long time, after looking for it for an eternity: I got it (Superdrug) and was just so disappointed.  Don't ask me why, I don't really know!  But the other day I was watching one of  gossmakeupartist's vids, and suddenly felt the need to retry my blender.  And OMG it was just amazing.  I needed to be bouncing the blender - I think I was just dragging it before tbh, and now foundation is just even more flawless than with my sigma F82!  I use the F82 for adding a heavier coverage to places that need it, but the blender helps the foundation to really almost fuse with my skin!
All in all, great little tool, great finish, and a pretty great price from what I remember!!

Out of all my 'spray-on' perfumes, this is my favourite.  I picked it up in duty free even though it was bloody expensive because it is such a beautiful scent.  I'm a sucker for pretty things.

L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadows...

2/23/2012 03:15:00 pm
I loveeee these little pots of good good goodness!  They are just heavenly!  So much so that I bought 3 in one go (you'll see them in a sec) and then a fourth colour played on my mind so much that I had to go back on another day and purchase it!  Hopefully by the time I post this, I will have been able to catch some sunlight to take a pic of the fourth colour.  So these are the 3 I picked up first time round:
L-R: Sahara Treasure, Bronze Goddess, Eternal Black
As you can see, these are beautifully pigmented.  I used a flat eyeshadow brush to pick up the shadow, and just swiped it once on my hand to achieve these swatches.  Sahara Treasure is a light gold, Bronze Goddess leans slightly goldy-olivey, both of these are shimmery, and Eternal Black is matte, but kind of wet-looking at the same time, with glitter shot through. These colours are just beautiful, and multi-dimensional, not just in the sense of shimmer for the two lighter ones, and sparkle for the darker colour, but also in the way the colours can be used as an all over wash of colour, and provide light and contour to the eye with just one shade.  This is more obvious in the chocolate shade, which I will put pics of below.
It is hard to believe that these are powders, the should be almost like dazzle dusts, and apply just as pigmentedly, but they are packed in an almost solid form, and apply like a cream!  Just lovely!
I recommend you go and buy them!
A post of these in action is coming up today!
