Review | No7 Beautiful Skin Foaming Cleanser...

I have now been using this cleanser, which you may well have seen in my No7 Haul post available, on and off for about a month, and thought I would share with you my thoughts on it!

Boots website states:

As well as No7’s unique multivitamin and mineral blend to hydrate and energise, the foaming cleanser is also enriched with zinc – proven to help regulate the skin’s oil production – for radiant, healthy-looking skin all day long.

As I previously mentioned in my haul post, this was quite a love at first cleanse story!  Why, you ask, do I love it?  Well, I have tested it in my usual way to see just how good it is at doing its primary job: cleaning.  The way I do this is to use one pump of it all over my face, and see how it fares on a really, really full face on makeup - namely my Dior Forever - before I then do a second cleanse with my Clari, which shows me two things: how well the first cleanse took off my makeup, and secondly cleans my skin super dooper deeply!  

The results of my incredibly scientific experiment was that hardly any makeup residue appeared on my Clari at the second cleanse!  It literally seems to melt off my makeup, and when used in conjunction with the Clari, really foams up and cleans deep deep down into my skin.  It leaves my skin feeling very, very soft however, after using it a few times in a row, my skin can feel a bit tight.
UPDATE: I looked at this today, and its nearly finished!  I haven't been using it, so one wonders who has been?  Well I found it near the shower, so I reckon its my 16year old brother.  Let's just say if he's that happy that its nearly finished, it must be pretty good.  It really is a nice cleanser, and I think it would really be a good cleansing choice for anyone with oily or teenage skin.  So the conclusion is - if you get a £5 off No7 voucher, give your little brother/sister/son/daughter  treat.  Apparently they'll like it.

Battle | Primers: Benefit the Porefessional V Philosophy the Present

Yesterday I went to see the film Dark Shadows with a couple of friends, and a conversation about a GOSH primer I used to have, that one of my friends had found unloved in a drawer inspired this post.  The film is amazing btw.  Best film I've seen in a loooooooooong time.  Hair and make up of the women - Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter and Chloe Moretz were amazing, but it was Eva Green's hair (blonde!) and make up that stole the show: just ridiculously flawless: found myself entranced by her! And of course, the gorgeous Johnny Depp is the lead.   

So, on with the post!  I have a need for a primer.  Without one makeup will be sliding off my face in a matter of hours, especially around the end of my nose.  Weird.  At the moment, I have 2 primers in rotation - Benefit the Porefessional (review here) and Philosophy the Present (original review here).  If you have a quick peek at the original reviews, you can see I pretty much liked both, but as I am using them more and more, I am finding differences between the two.  

I originally thought that the Porefessional was somewhat helpful in holding onto my make up for dear life, but sadly I am discovering this is not the case.  What it is good for is filling in the old pores - BUT there is still the issue that however many times I use this, I almost always seem to apply toooooo much and the primer pills, creating flaky bits all over my face.  Sigh.  

So I used the Present the other day.  Aaaaaaah I had forgotten that I liked the smell - kind of lavender mixed with baby powder?! - and how well it grabs my make up.  Tbh again, you need a tiny weeny amount, otherwise, as I discovered, your foundation won't blend, the surface of your face will almost be too stiff!  I think, in the battle of Porefessional V Present, Present wins out.  So perhaps I'll have to sell my Porefessional to stock up my almost finished Present!  But then again, fickle old me might stray back to the GOSH primer!

You brush your teeth everyday... Clarisonic review!...

So, my ultimate uhb-session with skincare continues!

My Clari!

This little gadget has been in my possession for nearly a year now, and has unfortunately hardly been used.  It was ordered the day before I was made redundant, but I was allowed to (sneakily) still purchase it at cost price.  It is the Clarisonic Plus kit!  I think I bought it for cost price at around £80 - when it retails at around £180, and the Clarisonic mia (with less functionality) costs around £120: can you believe the mark-up in prices?!  Anyways, so why have I not been using this wonder product?  Well I have tried.  Twice.  But of course, the ensuing break out caused by the purging of my skin, put me off both times.  UNTIL NOW!  I have recently - I think it was Boxing Day - started using this little gadget again.  Religiously.  Twice a day.  

Of a morning I now try and hot compress with a trusty flannel, then - using my cleanser of choice, which is the No7 Beautiful Skin Foaming Cleanser or Dead Sea Spa Magik Black Mud Soap.  I apply the cleanser, mixed with water onto my face, and start my little gadget up.  This really is effortless cleansing at its best!  You press the power button, a beep comes on, move the clari in circular motions, using little pressure, over your forehead.  After 20secs another BEEP, move it onto your nose and chin - I make sure I get into the sides of the nose, and take it slightly under the chin too - this again is 20 secs and BEEP move to cheek 1 for 10 secs BEEP cheek 2 for 10 secs.  And that is it!  Face done!  I do make modifications to this routine - whacking the clari on again if I fancy doing my neck.  I also do something a bit naughty and mix an exfoliant  (my choices include No7 Men's face exfoliator, bit of Lush Dark Angels, St Ives Microdermabrasion Scrub and the new No7Scrub that matched my cleanser) in with the cleanser - do NOT take my advice and do this, do as I say, not as I do, as you are generally not advised to use a scrub with the clari.  And of an evening (or generally very late at night for me), I always double cleanse, so I will generally use the Boots Botanics Cleansing balm, really massage it in to get the thick wall of makeup off my face, and the blood pumping, and use a hot flannel to take it off, then start my clarisonic routine.

Now, I have only been using this about 6 weeks regularly - remember 6-8 weeks is the time it takes for cell turnover, so this is the optimum time to test and I can say I definitely have noticed a clear-ness to my skin that was not there before.  My skin purged like hell at first, my face was (slight exaggeration) like a dot-to-dot picture.  It is not an exfoliation tool, so will not dissolve any pigmentation miraculously, and as said, caused me to break out around my chin, but even with the break out, there is a clarity that has become even better over time!  I still am breaking out around my chin, but I think that probably no longer has to do with the Clari, and it's getting better due to the products mentioned in my problemo skin treatments post. I am hoping that my skin continues to become clearer, and hopefully the spots decide to run away!  I'll update you in a bit!

Bit of info - the brush head defos needs a change - remember I have been using this on and off for about 9months, but everyday for about a month.  The heads should be changed the same as an electric toothbrush head - every 3months.  As for bacteria and all that malarkey, I use an antibacterial hand wash to wash the brush head after every cleanse (we have a fancy schmancy 'no-hands' one).

I've got a revamped skincare routine coming up tomorrow!

Faffing around face...

So I was meant to be doing some uni work today (Sunday - not sure when I'm gonna post this), but for once I'm kinda on track with it! Yay!  Also the snow distracts me =|, what's a girl to do?  I'll tell you what a girl does!  She watches a load of youtube videos!  Haha, today I watched Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup and her  Beauty PR Video - this is what my original job was, and after I've finished my Masters, I would like to get back in the industry on a larger scale - as well as the lovely Pixiwoo Priscilla Presley Video, and Lisa Eldridge's Clemence Poesy Video.  I then decided to playy about with my face - as I do when bored - using the Priscilla Video as a starting point.  Once you see the pics I'm sure you'll agree, it doesn't really look the same, a general occurrence on account of my skin tone I think.

I love the combination of the Dior and the Healthy Mix Serum, I didn't even need to use a concealer for this look!

The powder products are my daily essentials - after foundation I use my Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush to powder using the Mac Pressed Powder NC35, then apply a dusting of the Vichy Dermablend powder in the same way (this powder really perfects the skin, and gives it a healthy iridescence).  The Balm Bahama Mama is my favourite bronzer, it is completely matte, and can be built up from a light flush to a dark contour.

Used the lightest colour all over the lid from the glominerals palette, then the two darker glominerals shadow in my crease and outer third of the lid.  For extra depth I added the matte brown of the Mac palette, and lined with the glominerals cream eye line.

What's in my battered bag?!...

Hola!

So, I see a lot of these posts all over the beauty blogging world, and although I am not quite a fully fledged member yet, I thought I'd have a little go!

The bag in question is one I stole from my sister - a genuine beautiful but battered Marc Jacobs that I found for her on eBay for one of her birthdays, going cheap because the handles were breaking.  2 years down the line, and the handles are still very much intact, so a marvellous £20 bargain there!  I hope she doesn't see this post and ask for it back...

Next are the contents from the big pocket inside my handbag - although be warned, things do not stay in pockets or in their place, I have an issue with losing things!

First off is a new purchase (hurriedly bought before I enforced my spending ban!), my pink retractable powder brush from Ms Makeup, which I believe one can find in Boots, however, luck was on my side this day and I picked up for a mere £2 after spotting it whilst passing a market make-up stall.  Absolute bargain, but I have yet to use it for my touch ups.  Next to that we have some cheap Boots eye make-up remover pads - to be honest not really sure why I have these here as I always remove my eye make-up with cotton pads and remover (Simple, if anyone's interested), but I suppose they come in handy when my hands are colourful from swatching products whilst shopping, especially if I'm wearing white!  Or perhaps they're there just in case I need to take off my make up to do it again?  Possible you know.  MAC Select Sheer pressed powder in NC35for touch ups is next, and in front of that, for no apparent reason: some chewing gum!  No apparent reason because I never chew gum.  Confused face.  Black hair tie just in case I get grumpy and huffy and puffy and need to put my hair up, and in the middle of the hair tie, a Werther's Original!  Just because I love sweeties! To the left of those, the usual of 2 hair grips, a 5p that's obviously gotten lost and my mother's USB stick.  Again, confused face.

This is exceptionally peculiar, but in my small inside pocket I found my iPod dock remote control.  Did i think I could use it out and about? Oh and a penny.

Now we're onto hand sanitiser - I'm sure I have millions of these floating around, but I grabbed this whilst passing it the other day, as it was down to 70p at Boots!  The little chubby black stick next to it is also a boots product, meant to be rubbed on your feet where you think they'll rub against your shoes - the premise is that it 'silkens' your foot, and no rubbing, hence no blisters, occur: it works.  Fresh mint breath spray was picked up from Savers because I saw it whilst I was in the queue and thought ooooo that's cheap, and next to that, the leftover hair grips from a pack of 50.  Does anybody else's hair grips literally just magically vanish?!  I say, check your carpet.

Grey pen, must have made its way in from my uni bag somehow, comb for topping up my backcombing (I've never used the end bit though, is that a waste?), couple of coins, another hairgrip and my last Boots and Savers receipts

 This is my purse.  I love it. One day I'll do a post on it, but for now, its patent black, with stitched roses, is by Steve Madden and I found it whilst rummaging in TK Maxx for £14.99

 My carry around make up bag - it's actually a WHSmith pencil case.  I'll show you what's in here verrrrrry soon.

And lastly, an oil based perfume in White Musk - actually smells like a 'heady' rose, and an inhaler because occasionally I have asthma!  It's special though, my inhaler - if you hold the label next to a light source it charges itself up and glows in the dark!

And finally we're done!  I think the moral of this post is I need to downsize.  But I don't think I will!

The Beauty Faves | June

Hola all!

To get back in the general swing of one of my favourite things, aka writing, it seemed perfect to write about my favourites for June. I know I haven't written since the end of May, but writing is never far from my mind. June has been a month where I have loved contouring in all its forms - both subtle and dramatic. I find that with this I tend to not need too much foundation, and that I generally look more polished and groomed.

First up, in this lovely weather we have been enjoying, the Piz Buin Ultra Light 30, which does exactly what it says on the tube: the texture is fluid and dry to the touch, making it perfect for layering over moisturiser/ serums, and for then applying the next product - the Max Factor Facefinity Primer. This is my most favourite primer ever - I think the reason I like it is because it strikes me as a skincare-makeup hybrid. A lovely soft texture, not siliconey at all, that just sinks into the skin. Unlike most primers, which I get excited about at first, and then realise they do next to nothing, this one I have been using daily for a good month or so, and I have to say it really helps to keep my make up on at least until afternoon tea time! The bullet-stick-like-thing you can see next to the primer is the Becca Stick Foundation in Molasses, and is my go-to for contouring these days. Easily more blendable and believable than a powder contour, I use this after primer and before foundation, quite heavily layering it on and then blending with my Real Techniques sponge, before applying a mixture of Laura Mercier's Silk Creme foundation in Cashew Beige, which has fabulous, flawless finish, with brilliant staying powder, and Becca's Luminous Skin Colour in Toast, which lifts the face and adds the shot of yellow I need for my particular complexion. Together these have been my go-to base since I purchased them from Sandra at The Black Pearl Blog. Lastly, we have the Givenchy Matissime Powder in Mat Nude, which I use only on the parts of my face that I want to keep lighter - the parts where you would place highlighter.  Altogether, these are my June Faves, and they create quite a lovely face!

Sunday's Session | Pamper featuring Good Things, Alpha H, REN...

Hola!

This weekend, inspired by Anna of Vivianna Does Makeup and her Weekend Posts I have decided to share with you a little of my pampering sessions.  I don't have a set day for this, I tend to do it whenever I fancy a little bit of a sprucing up, and a bit of a relaxation session.  Today, I was feeling rather sleepy all day - due to the fact I am fasting - and more or less curled up in bed watching the Olympic Gymnastics, Diving and Beach Volleyball.  Quick side note: I'm actually enjoying the Olympics waaaaay more than I thought I would!  Yesterday's Men's Road Cycling was somehow quite riveting, and the opening ceremony was just perfect for a children's literature fan like me.  Anyways, I digress: back to the beauty bits.  

So, after a little (or a lot) of bed and TV, at 17:30 I decided to run myself a bubble bath (a Lush Bubble Bar would have been perfect at this point, but I had to make do with a lovely Radox Bubble Bath), jumped in with my Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban audio book on play, and it just so happens that I am now sitting here, at 20:00, starting to watch The Zoo on ITV, feeling thoroughly pampered, and definitely more relaxed thanks to this little horde of beauties:

In terms of my face, I applied my newest face mask, the Good Think Five Minute Facial Face Mask which 1) smells ridiculously gorgeous 2) feels like its actually doing copious amounts of good to my skin and 3) appears to be a cheaper and yummier version of the REN ClearCalm Clay Mask.  This stuff is soooo good that I will be writing up a separate review on this very soon.   Haircare-wise, after a good old double shampooing - with Vosene - I applied the Herbal Essences Seductively Straight Sleekening Intensive Mask for 5 minutes before rinsing, whilst I rinsed off the Good Things Mask using a little bit of Lush Ocean salt, thereby giving my face a little bit of exfoliation action too!  Of course I did the usual washing business that one must do in a bath or shower, and if you are interested, today's products of choice were the Soap and Glory Exfoliating Mitt with the Original Source Lime Shower Gel, which I adore.

So, after stepping out of the bath, deodorising and moisturising occurred:

And now, my faaaaave bit: skincare on my face!  Today, I really treated my skin to a mixture of 3 different items - the weird hot, cold, hot, cold weather really takes the healthy look out of my skin, so I try to put it back via skincare, so that I don't need to do so much when it comes to make up.  First up, the Alpha H Smoothing and Perfecting mask.  Now, I'm sure you can see this seems to crop up in the wrong place in this pamper routine, and you'd be right!  However, I am currently using this gem as an active night time moisturiser, as opposed to as a mask: I don't suggest you necessarily do the same - I am very aware of the limits of my skin, and this is fine for mine, but sensitive skins and reactive skins need to be cautious.  I applied it in a very thin layer, and massaged it right into the skin, then continued on to my REN T-Zone Balancing Day fluid, to balance my skin, and followed up with a superb burst of moisture in the form of DCL Post-Peel  Quick Recovery which is essentially a very calming, soothing, and moisturising cream that smells of angel delight!

Penultimately is my least favourite part of pampering - hands and feet.  For my hands I use the REN Vetiver hand cream because it literally disappears, leaving the hands like velvet.  For the feet I use Neostrata Problem Dry Skin Cream, which is complete and utter witchcraft!  Using this 3 days in a row will give you feet-model style feet!  I slather it on, and put on a pair of socks:

And last of all, trusty old Lanolips: my poor lips are in a right state, due to the fact I can't drink from 3.30am to 9pm, and as such, I am layering on as many lip balms as I can - Lanolips and Blistex Intensive Moisturiser are my current saviours!

Thing of the Week 13 | Review | Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

I think I'm in love.  With this:

The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair is raved about by everyone in the beauty world, it is SUCH a popular product.  Unfortunately, the stubborn within me prevented me from purchasing this sooner - I do not like jumping on bandwagons!  To be honest I'm just stubborn.com!  Add to this the fact that I had a HUGELY disappointing experience with the Estee Lauder Idealist Skintone Corrector, meaning that I just brushed aside the Advanced Night Repair.  Oh how I wish I hadn't.  Note to self, no need for stubbornness!  Anyways, many months after being stubborn, I think it was Anna at Vivianna Does Makeup, with one of her posts or videos that made me decide to try it - she seems as skincare obsessed as me!  Due to lack of funds, however, I didn't want to stretch to a full-sized product, and manage to wrangle these two 7ml bottles  off an ebay seller for £8.50 including p&p, and tbh I haven't even got through the first 7ml bottle in about a month.

So, first things first - the product is a clear serum, slightly thick, but obviously fairly water based as it sinks into the skin with ease.  The scent is slightly energising - kind of citrussy, I would liken it to the smell of Spain, not sure why, but I just would!  As I said, it sinks into the skin with ease, and is just the ticket for my ridiculously dry nose - no idea why its so dry when the rest of me is so oily!  I use this the alternate nights when I don't use my Alpha H Liquid Gold, and at first I thought it wasn't doing anything, and that I'd wasted more of my money!  However, the morning after the second night, I looked in the mirror to find something was different - I wasn't sure what, but something was.  Now what I find is that the morning after applying this, my skin looks clearer and brighter, and just more healthy.  And its not just a temporary effect, it seems to be cumulative, and that is something that I'm really happy with.  I also apply extra to any breakout areas, and find that in the morning the breakouts have practically disappeared!  Of course, I still haven't been using it that long, and hopefully haven't seen its full efficacy yet: I can't wait to see what other wonders it does for my skin!

Once these bottles are finished, I think I'm going to have to buy the full size!

Faves | September

Hola!

I completely forgot that this was the 1st of October - time is seriously flying.  This month I'm going to keep my faves down to the bare minimum, it's not really been the month of anything really!

First Fave - Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup in 2WN1.  Beautiful, light-weight, and pleasingly yellow!

Next up, the Vichy Idealia Pro.  Basically, this stuff works, and I will do a full review in a couple of weeks!

Mac Angel has been my lippy of choice, paired with Nars Turkish Delight lip gloss:

In terms of perfume, this is one I've literally had since I was seven, but am finding it suddenly smells beautiful - Karl Lagerfield Sun, Moon and Stars, slightly musky, slightly powdery:

And for this month, we have fave foods and drinks - I go through phases that are more like obsession, and currently it's Frubes, Choobs, and Rose Tea!

And that's it for this month!  I tried to condense it as much as possible - I'm currently reading Anna Karenina, and LOVING it, so maybe we'll see that in next months faves!

Currently 2 | Foundations

Hola!

So here is part 2 of my "currentlys": foundation.  I looooove foundation, and I think I've found quite a few gems, old faves, and a few brand new foundations, soooo let's have a little look!

These are the foundations I currently reach for, and all have their individual unique selling points!  The Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup in 2WN1 is the foundation I reach for most: it is somewhat similar in tone and colour to my Nars Sheer glow in Stromboli, but is a much thinner, more natural consistency.  At the moment, I am tending to use this as my mixing medium, as the yellow tones in it are strong, so helps me out with any that may not have the yellow undertone.  The Maybelline Super Stay 24H in Fawn is actually an old fave that, when I bought my first Mac Studio Fix Fluid, I threw in the bin!  I rediscovered, and purchased it a few weeks ago when Boots were doing a 2 for £10 on all Maybelline items, and as this foundation was more or less £10 on its own, I couldn't resist.  The formula is super duper long lasting, and absolutely flawless - I do have the issue of my closest match running too pink, so I add in a drop of the Estee Lauder.  Beautiful foundation, and  a definite recommendation from me!  Next we have something that I didn't even know had launched in the UK yet, but whilst browsing the Maybelline stand, saw it and thought oooooo I've heard about that from Americans for aaaaaages.  It is the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in 220.  The stand actually has a super useful chart that helps you find your right colour depending on whether you are fair, medium or dark, and then whether you have pink or yellow undertones - I am medium with yellow undertones, so I got shade 220.  I am currently trialling this, hence it is in my "currentlys", so I don't have a huge amount to say about it at the moment, but first impressions is that it is a medium, healthy finish!  Last of all is the foundation I am most excited about - the Giorgio Armani Maestro in 7.  I actually picked this up just to have a quick look at it, I didn't think I would ever consider buying it, and unfortunately I love it.  Which is no good, as it is high-end, and therefore expensive.  This is the most beautiful foundation I have ever tried.  By beautiful, I am referring to the science behind it, the way in which you can see that the pigment isn't carried in emollients or any heavy base, but within what feels like a very thin, slightly oily serum, which smells of beautiful oils!  Hard to describe, but just gorgeous.  Skincare benefits seems amazing so far, and on my face it looks like my skin, but beautified!

Lust list of the day...

...foundations!

I am, above and beyond everything, a foundation girl.  Perfecting my skin endows me with confidence, and helps me get through my day in a very upbeat kind of way.  If i rush my base, or don't quite get it right, as silly as it seems, my confidence can come crushing down like jenga!

My foundation collection at the moment has has had some hardcore whittling down!  It now consists of Nars Pure Glow and Pure Matte, Dior Forever, Mac Studio Fix, Revlon Colourstay and Vichy.  I think that's it at the moment.  Foundations I've gotten rid of include Chanel Vitalumiere liquid and powder, Guerlain Lingerie De Peau, Mac Face and Body as well as other high end brands.  As such I have learnt the power of the tester!  In fact, by the time you read this I'll probably have been to Westfield and come back with an armload of testers in search of my next foundation perfection!

So currently on my lust list are:

Clarins Ever Matte

Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H

Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation

I have actually had a sample of the Armani, but as usual, the sales assistant matched me far too dark, but at least I have a reference point now.  I'll let you know how I get on with my sample procuring!
