Kabuki Kabuki Kabuki! Sigma F82...

Hola!
So, today's little bloggy is going to be about a little beauty I discovered a couple of months ago: the Sigma F82 Round Top Kabuki Brush!  This is one of the ultimate loves of my life!  So soft, so beautifully made, does exactly what it should and more!  Absolute perfection

Up until I started reading about the Sigma X range on many different blogs (I think it was on http://www.viviannadoesmakeup.com/ one of my favourite blogs that I read about it first), I had been firstly using my Bobbi Brown Foundation Brush.  Bobbi Brown brushes are of fantastic quality, as such the core of my brush collection is a Bobbi Brown Set (I will do a post on these at a later date).  So the brush I was using, the Bobbi Brown Foundation brush, did the job perfectly well, but as a flat, traditional foundation brush, I had been noticing that it would sometimes leave lines around my face, from the dragging of the brush, and, it would sometimes look as if my foundation was sitting on top of my skin.  So I then plumped for the Elf Studio Stipple Brush, in the hope that I could buff in my foundation.  I remember receiving it, and the first time I used it thinking "Woah this brush is the best!"  Boy was I wrong, I had no idea what was to come in the future.

If I had to compare finding the F82 to something I would compare this 'finding out about brushes' experience to mobile phones.  When I had my beloved Nokia 7373 in pink, I though wow this is one cool phone, then I used it to death and had to begrudgingly buy a new one.  Settling on the Samsung Tocco Lite in Pink I thought wow how cool am I with this touch phone, until that one died too.  Then came my BB Storm 2, touch screen, Internet, BB capabilities! AMAZE-BALLS.  Until my current BB Torch - the Sigma F82 of Phones!  I know I went slightly off track there, but I really wanted to share with you the splendour of this brush!

So what is so amaze-balls about this brush?

Soft and Dense.
I think that literally sums it up.  So soft, and so dense.  I first of all use my fingers to almost prime my skin with a small amount of foundation, then place dots - although I suppose in my case they are more like lines - of foundation onto my face and use the F82 to buff buff buff away at the foundation.  Any spots needing extra coverage, receive a touch more foundation, and a stippling with this brush.

I don't really know what else to say about this brush apart from I should probably clean it more often! I don't quite remember where I bought it from, but it came to about £16ish pounds.  Also, any girlies out there with the SigmaX set, would you recommend having them all? Or is one more than enough?

Hope this was helpful!

Rihanna Nails
Its been a fair while since I've given myself a bright nail - winter has consisted mostly of nudes and dark reds.  However when rummaging through my nail polish collection to create What's My Name Rihanna-style nails (Essie's Lapis of Luxury see above), I came across a bright barbie-pink Rimmel London Lycra Pro in 293 Pop Rose, the type I used to alternate with my favourite ever shade of dark red nail polish whilst I was at uni.  And I thought go on then, do it! So I did - with a little twist!

I love the accent ring finger type nail, mostly because I like my ring finger nail the best: I find it easy to shape and the least likely to break!  Many of you may recognise the glitter colour as Pink Fizz by Model's Own: it is my absolute fave colour (or shared fave colour!), and I would quite happily paint all my fingers and toes with it!  Except..it has one MAJOR drawback.  It takes me literally my whole life to remove it!  Even using cotton pads, artificial nail remover and foil! So as such, for now it has been relegated to ring-finger status.  Sad times!  This is the only polish I have from Rimmel Lycra Pro, but what I absolutely love about this is the ease of application due to the maxi brush.  Also, in terms of wear time, in the picture above I have had this on since Friday evening, and it is now Wednesday night, there is a tiny bit of wear on the nail tips, but this is expected - but I know that this will last me over a week if I left it on.  I will probably do a seperate post on the Pink Fizz just because I adore it (especially if someone can recommend an extra extra extra strength nail polish remover!).

In terms of base and top coat, I picked up the Maybelline Forever Strong Pro in Crystal Clear in a 3 for 2 in Superdrug, and am using that as my base (my bases always seem to get used up and gloopy quickly).  Until very recently I had been using the amazing Seche Vite as a top coat, but I like to read at unusual moments, and probably after nearly a year of using it, I read the bottle and it said that it can cause reproductive problems!  So I stopped using that straight away, and am now using Sally Hansen Insta-Dry which literally takes about half a minute to be touch dry, and my nails stay polished for over a week if I wish!

...A young lady received a beautiful book from her sister and decided to share it with the world in a rather gratuitous post, for the world should see the wondrous illustrations of Christian Lacroix and the tale of Sleeping Beauty...

...there will always be a perfect happily ever after..

p.s. get hold of this book if you can, it's less Sleeping Beauty, more a reworking of Christian Lacroix meets Sleeping Beauty

I think not!  No ways am I using this for fire-wood!
Haha, that was a bit of a lame joke, I think I've been watching Old Bear Grylls too much!  Seriously though, me and my sister are obsessed with his daredevil ways!  Talking of which, anyone catch the Miranda and Jonathan Ross Bear Grylls Specials?  Jonathan was the best - absolutely hurt my cheeks laughing watching him try to pull of the pigeons head and ending up panickedly throwing it out of the cave!  Anyways back to my beloved Kindle!  I am a bookworm.  I realised this - I learnt to read very early - when I discovered at aged 5 I was reading way above my age (not actually bragging, just telling you my reading history!), and trying doggedly to read all the volumes of the Lord of The Rings in a week aged 11 for a book review - which btw I almost succeeded at: I only had 100 pages to go when I crashed and burned!
But as I have got older, I don't know if it is the inconvenience of holding and carrying a book - although actually I love the feel of a book - or the lack of time, or the distraction of technology, that has lead me to read less and less.  Don't get me wrong, when I do read, I absolutely love it, and of course, for my English Lit Masters, I am having to read an awful lot. Actually it was in my Bronte's class that my friend Leighan (Hi there!) introduced me to her Kindle 4, and I fell in love.  The way the page is presented on screen is exactly like a book - it is this 'essence' of book-ness that I was afraid of losing with a kindle, but it does surprisingly well to preserve it.  My sister did show me the beautiful-looking Kobo - it comes in pink, I love pink! - but, and I know I sound old when I say this, it is in colour, and it is touch-screen, and as much as I love colour (pink) and touch-screen (I have a BB torch), generally books should appear in black and white.  Unless they are fabulously illustrated editions i.e. my Christian Lacroix Sleeping Beauty, which I will take some pics of soon!
A little picture so that you can have the kindle experience!

The kindle 4 is smaller in size than most of my book collection at under 7x5inches, has an easy configuration to the buttons and page turning - which is pretty much in real-time, and feels lovely and light for when I'm lying in bed reading.  In fact, everyone I have shown my new nifty gadget to has loved it!  I have so far downloaded free books, mostly classics, as well as reduced-price The Help and Game of Thrones book 1.  But, and here is where this little kindle is becoming ever useful - it now has a web browser names 'experimental' because it is experimental, and you can either email yourself, or transfer using the computer, PDFs and Word documents, which now means I always have my CV on me!
I absolutely love my kindle, and love it even more with my soft pink cover on it - which I bought for under £5 from eBay!

Any questions, please ask!

You can't eat the orange and throw the peel away - a man is not a piece of fruit...

1/02/2012 08:46:00 pm
I am ultimately obsessed (or as Giuliana Rancic might say "uhb-sessed") with skincare.  It stems really from my last full-time job doing PR for a medi-spa and plastic surgery clinic.  I was lucky enough to have a both a wonderful manager cum beauty therapist and an aesthetic nurse who let me have beauty treatments, and aesthetic treatments for free during our quieter periods.  Of course there was the usual waxing which my manager did for me, but my favourite treatments were always the aesthetic ones!  Despite my tender age at the time (22-23) I was allowed chemical peels, botox and lip fillers! And I bloody loved them all!  I was taught about skin-specific ingredients to improve the overall look and health of skin, and also the importance of serums and a skincare routine.

Leaving aside the injectables for today - I will do a future post on them if anyone is interested - I thought I might just give a brief description and the benefits of chemical peels.  First of all, a skin peel generally doesn't peel off!  It is normally a clear liquid with an active acid in it - be it lactic, glycolic, jessner, TCA etc etc, which is painted onto the skin using generally a brush, after cleansing the skin.  Now what happens next is dependent on the strength of your peel, and the tolerance of your skin, plus whether you have specific pigmentation spots that you may need to rid yourself of!  But as a generalisation, the acid is brushed onto the skin, and worked into it for between 1-5 minutes depending on a) whether you have had the treatment before b) how your skin is reacting to it.  The sensation of a peel is kind of like a prickly, itchy feeling: I always used to explain it to the client as having an itch that you are not allowed to scratch! Obviously the intensity of this 'itch' depends on the strength of the acid being used, it is definitely uncomfortable!  The peel is then neutralised, and an SPF and moisturises will be applied.

So, what exactly does a chemical peel do?  Well, in the simplest terms, if you imagine your skin as cells held together by glue, the acid helps to break down the uppermost layer of 'glue' to loosen the top, dead, dull skin cells.  Also known as a 'chemical exfoliation' your skin really does look refreshed and plump, and a course of treatments really does help with pigmentation issues, and evening out of skintone.

One of the things I genuinely miss about my old job is having skin peels =[ - I really feel that, using the right brand of peel can give you such good results.  In terms of brands, in my own opinion, I find the DCL peels to be not much more than a deep-clean of the skin, the Neostrata ones to be effective, but seem very medical, but the GloTherapeutics peels were my absolute favourite - giving both amazing results and being very luxurious!

The important thing to remember when having a skin peel is to firstly make sure that the person performing it is qualified and experienced!  Make sure you have a consultation with them beforehand - these are not miracles, and your expectations must be reasonable.  Sometimes with darker skintones, a preparatory serum may need to be used to condition your skin to stop hyper or hypo-pigmentation occurring after your peel!  In terms of strength, Lactic acid peels are fairly gentle, so may be a good one to start off with, Glycolic peels come in varying strengths and were my preferred method, and then there are stronger peels including Jessner and TCA, which are definitely more advanced.  Please remember that a course of treatments will always yield the best results, and after an intense course, a maintenance plan is the best way to go.  Nonetheless, one treatment will definitely boost your skin!  Also it is very important to ensure that you use SPF daily with peels.

I know that this is a ridiculously waffly post, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask them,

Hola!
I hope you have all had a very happy New Year and welcome to my first blog post of 2012, hopefully it is to be one of many, many posts this year!

I am in a terribly lazy mood, but will try to rectify that tomorrow, but as a little teaser of posts to come, here is a picture - albeit rather terribly shot on my BB camera, in a hurry on Christmas Day - of my Christmas Presents!
L-R: Kindle! Limited Edition Alice In Wonderland Book, Sleek Eyebrow Kit in Dark, Christian Lacroix Sleeping Beauty Book, Dior Forever Foundation in 031, Day to Page Filofax Refills 2012.  I will be doing more in-depth reviews on most of these bit and pieces!

New year's to me to is a bit of an odd one - at first it fills me with hope and thoughts of self-improvement and new beginnings etc etc. (clichéd I know!), but as the year progresses- and bear in mind it is only day 2 of 366! - it starts to slightly depress me!  Already this is day 2 of 2 where I have done NO exercise whatsoever, and is also day 2 of 2 where I have ridiculously procrastinated over two essays I have due for my Eng Lit Masters: one due Monday coming, and one the Monday after!  And I am pretty sure that instead of going to the library tomorrow I shall bury myself in my duvet and watch films all day (although I believe the amazing films that have been on throughout the festive period will draw to an end soon!).  Today I watched my sky-plussed Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince followed by The Borrowers, only to find that when my Sky+ Box stopped playing The Borrowers, Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone was playing on ITV! Ah what a lazy life I have lead today!  I am also contemplating buying the HP Boxset, however, I am not meant to spend any money this money OOOH the dilemmas!  To add to this, I am now under a blanket half lying down, half sitting in my bed, watching Channel 4's Mash-Up, which I have to say I am enjoying immensely!

Despite breaking almost all of my resolutions already (Oopsie!) I have decided just to list them here anyways, so that in a year's time I can look back at it and think Oh My Goodness!
1.  Do some kind of exercise everyday during January - as any amount of exercise is better than what I do now!- in the hope that I get into some kind of routine that I can continue for the rest of the year
2.  Be nice! I sometimes just forget to be nice - not that I am horrid, but I just forget to be nice!
3.  Don't spend any money in January.  This is part of a long-term resolution to generally stop spending money, as I am a shopaholic!

So that is all for today monkeys!
Hopefully I'll get myself in gear and see you back here tomorrow!
